A police car was rammed and damaged during a pursuit in Levin this morning.
A repossession agent who had gone to pick up a car called police shortly before 11am to say the owner had driven off on their arrival.
As police hunted for the car, they began receiving a number of complaints about its driving.
A patrol car caught up with the vehicle but it would not pull over.
On Kimberley Road, the driver rammed the police car, rendering it inoperable, Inspector Paul Jermy, of police central communications, said.
A second police car took over but abandoned the chase when the offender's driving was deemed too dangerous.
The vehicle and alleged driver were found a short time later, still in Levin.
Police said a 19-year-old man would appear in Levin District Court on a number of driving charges.
