Police call for information after man shot at rural Waikato home

Police are trying to piece together how a man ended up with gunshot wounds after he turned up at hospital emergency department seeking treatment.

An appeal was made today for anyone with information to come forward after a man was fired on at properly in Rukuhia Rd, just outside Hamilton, on Sunday night.

Acting Detective Sergeant Scott McKenzie said the man arrived at Waikato Hospital with gunshot wounds.

He was now in a stable condition.

Police were now working to establish how the man came to be shot.

Yesterday a scene examination took place at the property under the protection of the Waikato Armed Offenders Squad.

McKenzie said the investigation team would appreciate anyone in the Rukuhia Rd area coming forward and sharing any information they had.

They were particularly interested in anything unusual happening on Sunday and Monday.

"If you heard or saw anything suspicious at the address from Sunday evening through till Monday at midday we ask that you contact Hamilton Police on 07 858 6200," said McKenzie.
