Northland police have raided and shut down an operating methamphetamine lab in Whangarei.
Around 30 police, including the Armed Offenders Squad, executed a search warrant at a Kamo Road address around 2:30pm and discovered the lab mid-operation.
Nearby streets were cordoned off as police moved in and two men, aged 31 and 44, were detained and taken in for questioning.
The Auckland Clan Lab team and ESR will be carrying out tests and removing chemicals from the scene.
Officer in Charge of Whangarei CIB Dene Begbie says police will take all possible steps to apprehend people involved in the manufacture of methamphetamine.
"This drug has a major negative impact on our communities. This lab was found in a built-up residential area and was not only dangerous for the people making it, but for nearby residents."
