The New Zealand Embassy in Brazil and the New Zealand Police say they are aware of the decision from the Federal Court in Brazil requiring Smith to be deported.
Police issued a statement saying : "Further assessment is required to ensure there is a full understanding of this decision and the steps required from here in regards to the Brazilian justice process.
Arrangements for Smith's return and time-frames will be determined once this assessment is made.
