KEY POINTS:
Detectives investigating the death of Katie Powles south of Auckland two weeks ago are still waiting to talk to the driver of the car that hit hers.
Police believe the man deliberately crashed into two vehicles on Linwood Rd, Karaka, killing the 26-year-old newlywed in one car and seriously injuring the 42-year-old male driver of the other car.
The 51-year-old man believed to have caused the crash was admitted to hospital with head injuries and Counties Manukau police spokeswoman Denise Traill said police were still unable to speak to him.
"The investigation is well advanced and we're just waiting for the opportunity to talk to him," she said. "That's dependent on the medical authorities saying he's well enough to be spoken to."
Police have been investigating whether the crash was a deliberate act and whether alcohol was involved.
The man is believed to have left his home in Swanson, West Auckland, about 5.30pm on June 3 and driven to Karaka, arriving about 6.30pm.
His behaviour in the 45 minutes before the crash was of enough concern for members of the public to contact police.
It subsequently emerged the driver may have threatened his own life in conversations with his family before he left Swanson.
None of those involved in the crash knew one another.
