A motorcyclist suffered head and spinal injuries during a crash between his bike and a car near Okoia today.
Police said the 60-year-old male rider hit the side of the turning car during an overtaking manoeuvre.
He was taken to hospital in a serious condition after the crash, St John spokesman Ian May said.
Emergency services were called to the scene at No 2 Line about 10.20am where the car and motorbike had come to a rest on the side of the road just near a driveway. The driver's door of the car had significant damage and the front wheel of the of the motorbike had been ripped off its body.
The driver of the car, Witana Nepson, said he was pulling right into a driveway when the impact happened.
