KEY POINTS:
Hamilton police have arrested a man in connection with a daylight sex attack on a woman as she walked home in central Hamilton last week.
The 19-year-old was crossing Claudelands bridge about 4.30pm on February 25 when she was attacked.
She was dragged off the footpath into bushes on the eastern side of the bridge by a lone male offender and assaulted before members of the public came to her aid.
Detective Senior Sergeant Chris Page of Hamilton CIB said the man was found at a rural property just outside of Whangarei.
"Hamilton police had been working very closely with their counterparts in Whangarei who located and arrested the suspect last night.
"He is being held in custody to appear in the Whangarei District Court on a number of charges."
Mr Page said the victim had been told of the arrest and was relieved by the news.
