An alleged sexual predator was arrested in Taranaki today by police working on historic crimes dating back to 1993.
The 36-year-old man from Hawera was arrested for a "significant number" of sex offences over a 20 year period, police said.
"Taranaki Police are investigating a number of historic sexual offences that occurred from 1993 through to 2012 in Hawera, but also primarily in Otorohanga and Te Awamutu."
Police said the majority of the offending took place in the Waikato area in the late 1990s.
Detective Senior Sergeant Brent Matuku said there were at least 10 victims known to police and they included male and female victims. "Some of whom were family members," he said.
"The victims we know of are relieved that this male is being held to account for his actions, which have had a devastating effect on many of them".
