KEY POINTS:
Hamilton police have arrested a man alleged to have fled the scene of a crash which left a woman seriously injured on Sunday.
The accident happened shortly before 8pm when two vehicles crashed in the vicinity of Manchester Place, Te Rapa.
The driver of one car left the scene, leaving a mother seriously injured and her child with minor injuries.
Senior Sergeant Kevin Anderson said a 33-year-old self employed Cambridge man came forward to police last night.
He had initially told police on Monday the car was stolen from him, but made a "full and frank" confession yesterday.
The man fled the accident and left his car out of view where it was found locked a short time later by police.
A 25-year-old woman driving the other car suffered serious injuries and had to be cut out of her vehicle by firefighters.
She remained in a serious condition in Waikato Hospital's high dependency unit.
Her four-year-old daughter suffered scratches and bruises.
The man, due to appear in Hamilton District Court today, was charged with making a false complaint and failing to ascertain injury at a crash. Further charges were likely, said Mr Anderson.
