Police armour to be tested to point of destruction

Body armour issued to frontline police officers is about to be tested to the point of destruction to see if it has stood the test of time. Police first began issuing the Kevlar stab resistant body armour in late 2006 to provide protection against sharp weapons, including knives and syringes, and low calibre firearms.

The armour was issued to all staff on operational roles away from a police station. With the armour now five years old, some sets would be sent to the manufacturer
in Britain for testing.
