Police are appealing for a witness who left a note on a tourist's van in Napier, after it was broken into and property stolen, to come forward.
Two European tourists parked the van in a carpark on Saturday afternoony, Detective Glen Yule, of Hastings police said.
"They went for a swim after speaking to a man parked nearby and returned later to find their van broken into and a notebook computer, three cellphones, clothing and a large amount of euros and NZ dollars stolen."
They found an unsigned note on the windscreen advising them of the break-in.
The computer had since been recovered, Mr Yule said.
Inquiries were continuing.
