KEY POINTS:
The father of a 10-year-old Stanmore Bay girl who fought off a kidnapper expects the horror of the ordeal will hit home today as she returns to school from holidays.
The girl, known only as Katie, was attacked by a man who tried to force her into his car as she walked along Whangaparaoa's Waiora Rd at 2pm on April 10.
The offender - whom police are still hunting - gave up and drove away when Katie screamed and kicked at his four-wheel-drive vehicle as Silverdale man Theo Hoffman interrupted the attack.
Katie's father, wishing to be known as Andy, said last night that Katie and the family were doing well.
"[Katie's] not too bad ... I think it might get to her a bit tomorrow when she's got to go on that street again."
Katie and one of her two sisters would be accompanied by their mother Janet to and from school from now on, Andy said. The other sister caught a bus.
Andy said he was worried the man would reoffend.
"I just fear that he's going to strike again before he gets caught. I don't want people to go through what me and my wife have gone through."
He said he was hopeful that publicising the event on the television show Police Ten 7 tomorrow night would generate leads and pleaded for anyone with information on the abduction attempt to contact the police. "He's not mentally sound. He's a very dangerous man."
Police are expected to release an Identikit picture of the offender on the show.
