Police are appealing for the driver of a car that is believed to have run over a 17-year-old Te Puke youth on Sunday to come forward.
Boydie Roberts was killed when he climbed out the rear passenger window of the car he was travelling in and fell on to State Highway 2, 2km south of Te Puke, at 5.30am. The car was travelling at 95 to 100km/h as the youth attempted to climb on to the roof, police said.
Senior Sergeant Ian Campion of Greerton said information received indicated he was run over by a vehicle travelling in the opposite direction. Mr Campion appealed to the driver to contact police.
