Police believe the Toyota Hilux German tourist Birgit Brauer was seen getting into the day she was killed was driven through Tangimoana and Scotts Ferry, near Bulls, after her body was found.
Police say that two sightings from residents of a matching vehicle is another significant breakthrough to finding the killer.
The grey Toyota Hilux was seen at Scott's Ferry about 1pm on Friday, September 23, and again travelling through Tangimoana about 8.30am the following morning.
Ms Brauer was picked up just out of Wanganui on Tuesday, September 20. Her body was found that evening in Taranaki.
Detective Senior Sergeant Grant Coward today called for more sightings.
He said many people would have been on the road, among them "whitebaiters, fishermen, forestry workers, and others either travelling to work or for other specific reasons".
"If anyone has seen this vehicle on or about September 23 or 24 September, police certainly want to know."
Police from Wanganui and the Horowhenua will today visit both Tangimoana and Scotts Ferry.
