KEY POINTS:
A woman is in a critical condition in Middlemore Hospital after being hit by a car in the Auckland suburb of East Tamaki tonight.
Inspector Gavin MacDonald said the accident happened at the intersection of Mellefont Close and Maghera Drive about 6.20pm.
The woman was aged between 40 and 60, about 154cm tall had blonde hair and was wearing open-toed shoes.
Mr MacDonald urged anyone missing a family member fitting that description to contact police immediately.
The driver of the vehicle was helping police with their inquiry.
