Police are appealing to the public for help identifying a man who is critically ill in Middlemore Hospital after being attacked the Mangere Town Centre this morning.
The man, who is believed to be in his mid 20s, is not expected to survive his injuries and police are treating his attack as a homicide enquiry.
Detective Sergeant Chris de Wattignar said the man appears to have been approached by two men in a car outside Foodtown in Mangere just before 6.45am. He was attacked and left lying on the ground with serious head injuries.
The attackers were described as Pacific Islanders in their early 20s who arrived and left in a dark coloured car which headed off in the direction of Mascot Ave.
Anyone with information about the victim's identity is asked to contact police on 027 497 4912 or the Manukau police station.
The victim is described as:
* About 155cm tall
* Olive skinned
* Slim build
* Clean shaven
* Dark hair which is short on back and sides
* An old appendix scar
He was wearing black pulp size 7 shoes, white star blue jeans from Jeans West, a black Casio digital watch and a navy blue faded t-shirt with no collar.
