KEY POINTS:
Police are appealing for public help in their hunt for a man who tried to abduct an 11-year-old girl in south Auckland last week.
The 11-year-old was walking with her nine-year-old friend in Wallace Rd near the Mangere town centre last Wednesday when a man in his late teens or early 20s tried to abduct the older girl.
Police said he grabbed her around her shoulders and arms and held her.
The younger girl ran to a nearby intersection before the 11-year-old struggled free and joined her.
"The offender was seen getting into a grey/dark blue, four-door vehicle, possibly a late 1990s model after the incident," said Detective Conan Bradley.
The man was about 1.7m tall, with a slight build. He wore a red t-shirt with a logo on it, three-quarter length pants and thongs.
Mr Bradley said anyone knowing the man or who saw the incident should call him on (09) 2591068
