The pedestrian struck and killed by a train in South Auckland yesterday was a 12-year-old girl, police say.
The girl was struck on the tracks at Taka St in Takanini just after 2.30pm.
Counties Manukau police spokeswoman Kimberley Mathews said the death would be referred to the coroner.
"It was a 12-year-old girl, which is really, really tragic," she said.
Passenger services on the southern line were suspended between Homai and Papakura stations until yesterday evening while police carried out a scene investigation.
