Conservation and animal health officials say nationwide anti-1080 protests tomorrow are misconceived, because banning use of the poison would push vulnerable native bird species towards extinction.
"Without protection, nine out of 10 North Island kiwi chicks born in the wild will be killed before they reach 1 year old," said the Director-General of Conservation, Al Morrison.
