Police were called by Ponsonby Intermediate School yesterday after a student was caught with a pocket knife in his schoolbag.
Principal Wim Boxen said a teacher became aware the boy had the knife and had taken him to his office yesterday morning.
He said he phoned police at the request of parents, who wanted to see the boy reprimanded so he understood the serious nature of his actions.
