PM opens art gallery upgrade

Prime Minister Helen Clark and Auckland City Mayor John Banks yesterday unveiled a plaque celebrating the official start of the $113 million upgrade of the Auckland Art Gallery.

Helen Clark, who is Minister of Arts, Culture and Recreation, said the visionary development would allow the gallery to display more of the 14,000 items from its internationally significant collections.

The project is expected to be completed in early 2011.
