Yesterday marked Sean Plunket's last day at Radio New Zealand after 13 years.
Next January, he will replace retiring host Justin du Fresne on The Radio Network's Newstalk ZB station.
Plunket, who has hosted Morning Report on National Radio since 1997, says he looks forward to the new job.
"I've never done talkback radio before; it's a new challenge."
Plunket, who covered such events as the September 11 terror attacks and the America's Cup, says working at Radio New Zealand was a dream come true.
He will miss his co-host, Geoff Robinson, whom he describes as a true professional. The last show was, he said, "Morning Report at its best" and he was proud to be part of the team. He admitted that he had shed a tear afterwards.
Plunket says he has no idea who will replace him on Morning Report but he wishes them the best of luck.
He is a monthly columnist for Metro magazine and also hosts The Nation current affairs programme on TV3.
