A Masterton cyclist with cerebral palsy is hoping his beloved red bike will be returned after being stolen from outside a Masterton shop.
Shirley Matthews said her son Warren had called in to buy lollies at the Westend Superstore on the corner of Pownall and Cornwall streets about six weeks ago and had left at the front of the store his red mountain bike, which he bought less than a year ago.
"The surveillance cameras show a fella riding away on his bike before he came back out," Mrs Matthews said. Warren had a bike lock but was only a couple of minutes, so didn't think he needed to lock it up.
"It really is sad for him. He loves his bike."
Mrs Matthews said the shop owners told her their surveillance cameras had caught the thief in the act. Police had been informed and were investigating.
