With the majority of the 45 players dressed in red and black and all proceeds of $1000 being donated to the Wilding Park Foundation to assist in the reconstruction of their courts, the devastation of the Christchurch earthquake was very much on the minds of those taking part in the Trev's Sports Wairarapa junior closed tennis championships in Masterton on Sunday.
Overall, a total of 91 matches was played in warm temperatures which ensured there were some tired bodies at the day's end.
The Electrical Services prize for the best-dressed player in the Canterbury colours went to Troy Etherington, of Hadlow, and the best sportsperson of the tournament award was won by Ella Major, of Greytown School.
