KEY POINTS:
As petrolheads in the UK are drooling over the planet's fastest production car, a little antipodean country waits.
It's highly unlikely that we'll ever get to see Shelby SuperCars' mind-blowing Ultimate Aero on these shores, but in Britain a luxury car dealer has just landed one, much to the delight of the nation's hardcore car fans.
Clive Sutton Premier Marques is offering a cobalt blue Aero for a shade under one million Kiwi dollars.
Listed by the Guinness Book of Records as the world's fastest production car, SSC's wunderkind managed 412.23km/h averaged over two speed runs on a road in Washington state last year.
The Ultimate Aero was tested at Nasa's wind tunnel facility in Langley, Virginia, where the SSC technicians were told it was aerodynamically stable to a staggering 442km/h.
Powered by an emissions legal, rear-mounted, 387.2 cubic-inch twin turbocharged V8 making 882kW (1183hp) and 1483Nm of torque, the Aero will hit 100km/h in 2.78 seconds. It will eat up a quarter mile in 9.9 seconds.
Weighing just 1245kg, the space framed, carbon and composite-bodied Aero still features full-screen sat nav, a reversing camera, 10-speaker audio system and even air conditioning.
It sits on forged three-piece 19 x 9.5-inch rims at the front, with 20 x 13-inch wheels on the back, wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport tyres. Behind these massive rims are 14-inch slotted and vented discs with six-pot and eight-pot calipers respectively.
The Aero's suspension set up consists of unequal length upper and lower A-arms with reservoir-adjustable Penske coilovers.
There are only 50 of the lightning fast supercars being made.
