Pitbull put down after biting girl

A pitbull dog which bit a 7-year-old girl in Moerewa in the southern Bay of Islands has been destroyed.

Police said the girl received a 10cm bite in her calf when the dog attacked her outside the gate of her home on Friday.

The dog's owners are likely to face charges.
