A Hamilton teen who says he can see the son of God on a piece of toasted pita bread has posted his divine find on Trade Me.
Tom Libeau - trading under his mother's web profile hamiltonian-11 - said his revelation occurred last week when he heated some pita bread. He left it in the oven for about 2 minutes before returning to find one piece resembled "the face of Christ".
Tom, 15, said although the bread was now crisp and warm, he resisted the temptation to satisfy his hunger.
"Instead, I left it in the pantry until today, when I finally decided that I might as well auction it off."
By deadline yesterday, bids on the godly apparition had reached $34 while the page - which had a subheading "the tasty messiah" - had recorded nearly 4900 hits.
However, not all Trade Me users were convinced. Some said the "apparition" looked more like Daniel Boone, or action star Chuck Norris.
Tom said a portion of the profits would probably be donated to the SPCA.
The auction runs until Thursday.
