Expectations that Pirinoa would made a strong big for the Wairarapa regional one tennis title this season were given further credence when they beat defending champions Masterton 5-4 on Saturday.
It was a close go though with the six singles matches being shared at 3-3 and Pirinoa having a slender 3-2 advantage in the doubles.
Geoff McKay, George Tatham and Emma Sloss were the singles winners for Masterton and Tim Pickering, Scott McDonald and Leanne Sweeney for Pirinoa. Interestingly enough all singles matches were won in straight sets.
Two of the doubles though went the full distance with Sweeney and Robinson winning their crunch women's match 7-6 in the third set.
