A Pirinoa father has appeared in court after he allegedly led police on a high speed chase from South Wairarapa to Wairarapa Hospital as he wanted to see his newborn child.
Karl Thomas Whittall entered no plea to two counts of dangerous driving and one each of driving at dangerous speed and failing to stop for police while appearing before Justices of the Peace Don Adams and Neil Cameron in Masterton District Court.
The offences were committed on June 10 as Whittall headed from Ponatahi to the hospital, reaching speeds of up to 140km/h on State Highway 53, police allege.
The second dangerous driving charge relates to the same day on Colombo Rd where police allege he put the public in danger with his driving, weaving across the centre line and driving at speed.
Police said at the time there was no reason for the 20-year-old not to stop when requested by officers.
