A rookie pilot had a rough landing in their first solo flight today.
The Cessna 152 bounced three times upon landing at Dunedin Airport shortly before 10.30am, and on the third bounce the plane's nosegear collapsed.
The pilot was unharmed in the incident which was described as "an awkward landing manoeuvre" by a Civil Aviation and Aviation Security Service spokesman.
"CAA acted quickly and requested that the runway was cleared and this was done very promptly by the airport operator to minimise disruption for other runway users," the spokesman said.
"The CAA Safety Investigation Unit is gathering information from the first responders - including Police and reviewing photographs from the scene of the accident."
