Monitoring of commercial pilots for alcohol and drug problems will intensify.
Two new measures were announced yesterday by Associate Transport Minister Nathan Guy.
The Civil Aviation Authority will work with the Ministry of Justice to make random checks on commercial pilots for any undeclared criminal convictions.
This will add to the current checks when a pilot enters the system and is required to declare any convictions.
The second measure is the introduction of an electronic database to improve information gathering.
