KEY POINTS:
A top- dressing plane had a rough landing at Dannevirke Aerodrome today after a wheel fell off mid flight.
The pilot of the single-seater aircraft was uninjured when the plane crashed at about 8.30am, but the undercarriage was damaged.
Murray Anderson, from the Dannevirke Police hadn't had a chance to talk to the pilot yet, but said he believed a wheel had fallen off while in flight.
The pilot had to find somewhere to land and had been lucky to be close enough to the Dannevirke Air Strip, he said.
"He had to land on the front and right wheel and once he landed he did a bit of a spin," Mr Anderson said from the scene.
"So the plane is facing the same way he came in."
Dannevirke's chief fire officer Mike Finucane said his volunteer team were leaving the site unneeded.
"It looks like he has had a particularly rough landing," Mr Finucane said.
"There is some damage to the left undercarriage wheel."
