KEY POINTS:
An Air New Zealand flight from Fiji to Auckland turned back to Nadi yesterday afternoon after its pilot received what the airline says was an alert about a possible wing-flap defect.
The aircraft was inspected on the ground and cleared to leave Nadi about 7pm, for an arrival in Auckland four hours after its scheduled time of 6.20pm.
TV One said passengers noticed flames coming from the jet about half an hour after it first left Fiji, but an airline spokeswoman denied that.
