Piha lifeguards did their lifesaving away from the water yesterday, helping a choking baby in the township.
The volunteers were treating burns and blisters to a beachgoer's feet when they were called to the choking infant on Beach Valley Rd, said head beach education instructor Cameron Sharpe.
Two lifeguards went to the address and gave oxygen to the baby, which had turned blue, until an ambulance arrived.
