KEY POINTS:
Police have released photographs of the backpack and cellphone stolen from a 15-year-old West Auckland girl after she was sexually assaulted in her own home by a man posing as a truancy officer.
Detective Sergeant Steve Salton said the man, described as a short, stocky Maori or Polynesian about 40-years-old, should have scratches around his neck.
Henderson police are searching for the girl's navy blue bag which has been missing since the attack on Tuesday.
"We've received a lot of good information from the public. We hope someone will be able to tell us where these two items are. They are of considerable importance to our ongoing inquiries," Mr Salton said.
The Herald on Sunday reported that the girl's NCEA assessment papers were also in her backpack.
The man approached the girl while she walked along Hobsonville Rd between 12.20pm and 1pm on Tuesday.
He told her he was a truancy officer and asked her to get into his car so he could check she wasn't wagging. He then drove her to her home where the assault took place.
The man was driving a white station wagon which had a tidy, light-grey interior and contained a Collins-brand diary.
