A man was arrested after a stolen car being pursued by police crashed at high speed in central Auckland last night. The driver was not injured and no police cars were involved in the crash.
Inspector Gavin Macdonald of the police northern communications centre said the 1992 Ford Falcon was spotted by police at the corner of Newton Rd and Cross St just before 7.50pm.
The pursuit lasted just over a minute and the stolen car reached speeds of more than 100km/h before the driver lost control, Mr Macdonald said.
The car hit a sign and shrubbery at the intersection of Ian McKinnon Drive and Dominion Rd.
The crash would not be reported to the Police Complaints Authority because no one was injured.
