Peter Hillary sent the Herald these pictures from his ascent of Mt McKinley in Alaska, at 6194m the highest mountain in North America.
It was the final in his "Seven Summits" challenge.
He dedicated the climb to his father, Sir Edmund Hillary, who died in January.
