KEY POINTS:
Auckland police are hunting for a man after a sexual assault in Auckland's CBD in the early hours of this morning.
A 19 year-old woman was walking along Bowen Ave towards Princes Street at about 1.40am when she was pulled into bushes and sexually assaulted.
Detective Sergeant Andy King said the woman managed to escape from her attacker and ran down Bowen Ave before meeting friends on Princes Street.
"This young woman was innocently on a city street at night, on her way to meet some friends. If it was not for her presence of mind and quick thinking, the consequences could have been far more serious," Mr King said.
He is asking anyone who witnessed the incident or recognises the sketch of the man to come forward.
Mr King said the man has been described as Maori or Polynesian, about 25 years old and of medium build.
He is about 1.7 metres tall with a short haircut and stubble. He was wearing a blue or black jacket with dull yellow flannel lining and blue or black jeans.
"We have real concerns that this male may re-offend by preying on other women in the city, if he is not identified and apprehended soon," Mr King said.
Anyone with information is asked to call 09 3026611.
