People travelling along SH1, south of Seddon, will need to carry photo ID, as clean up efforts continue in the area and bad weather looms.
Police are checking travellers have legitimate reasons to be in the area while the emergency effort is underway, after a 7.5 magnitude earthquake struck the region on Monday morning.
The road south of Seddon remains closed, however crews are working to reopen the section between Seddon and Ward, hopefully this evening.
The RNZAF is setting up portable showers at the Ward Welfare Centre today. These are expected to be operational this evening.
