Residents on the eastern side of the Coromandel Peninsula and on Great Barrier Island had their phones cut off yesterday after a cable was severed.
Up to 2000 residents and Telecom mobile users were affected, even losing 111 access.
The fibre cable was cut during work at a subdivision between Waihi and Whangamata just before 1.30pm. It was repaired eight hours later.
