Bank of New Zealand customers are the latest targets of an internet "phishing" scam.
An email is circulating which opens on a page looking almost an exact replica of the BNZ's banking website.
An error message warns customers that the latest transactions on their account could not be processed, and prompts them to log in to make sure their account is not suspended.
Providing the login and password information gives the scamsters access to the victims' bank accounts.
Banks have repeatedly warned people not to input any security data anywhere online, except on a bank's official website. Banks do not send out emails asking for personal details.
Thousands of people worldwide have been caught in such phishing scams over the past couple of years.
