Infamous escapee Phillip John Smith is suing Corrections for confiscating the hair piece he used as a disguise to flee the country in 2014.
In a statement from his lawyer, Dr Tony Ellis, Smith advised media he would be representing himself in the High Court at Auckland next year.
"Phillip who has not had his hairpiece returned since his escape to Brazil is suing Corrections in the High Court Auckland.
"His claim due to be heard 6 and 7 March 2017, involves allegations that the decision was made in breach of natural justice and without reasons, and breaches his freedom of expression, and fails to treat him with dignity and respect."
He has also taken a separate case against Corrections over the department's decision to stop temporary release and release-to-work for hundreds of prisoners following his escape to Brazil.
