Peugeot has started taking what it describes as pre-reservations for its i0n electric car, which is expected to be introduced at the end of 2010.
Although private customers can register their interest, it seems that the i0n is initially being aimed mainly at company and local government fleets.
Peugeot has considerable experience of electric vehicles – the electric version of the Peugeot 106 sold between 1995 and 2003 is still claimed to be the best-selling electric car ever – but in the case of the i0n, it is leaning on its links with Mitsubishi Motor Corporation.
The i0n is the second vehicle sourced by Peugeot from Mitsubishi in order to fill a gap in its range; the first was the 4007 SUV, which is based on the Mitsubishi Outlander.
