A cat's leg was amputated and a dog underwent extensive reconstructive surgery on a hind limb after they were both shot with air pellets.
The Rankin family of Te Puke had initially considered putting their cat Crunch down but opted to have her leg amputated at the cost of $500. The MacDonald family of Kaharoa - a small township past Pyes Pa - found their eight-year-old dog Rosie with a shattered hind leg about two weeks ago. Vets managed to save the limb despite the extent of the injury.
Both attacks have been reported to police by the families.
