An arkload of animals and tables laden with cakes, biscuits, flower arrangements and sand saucers made for a full card of judging at the annual St Mary's School Pet Day in Carterton yesterday.
Mayor of Carterton John Booth, a longtime farmer, was judging calves in the spring sunshine, while school principal Tim Nelson assessed the best cakes and baking in the cool of his office.
Most of the farmed animals at the pet day were lambs of varying sizes and ages, in traditional white and edgy black.
There was also an eclectic pack of hounds, from a dalmatian to a rottweiler to lap and working dogs.
Goldfish were also well represented at the event, appearing in small bowls to a kitted out aquarium, pebbles, bubbles and all.
