Petrol and diesel prices rose 6c yesterday, to almost $1.44 a litre for regular petrol and $1 a litre for diesel.
Regular unleaded petrol increased to 143.9c a litre, premium to 148.9c a litre and diesel to 99.9c a litre. BP reportedly led the charge yesterday morning.
The other companies followed, to "maintain competitive advantage", in the words of Shell New Zealand spokeswoman Jackie Maitland.
She cited rises in the prices of crude oil and the weakening dollar as causes for the price increase.
