Domestic petrol and diesel prices should drop while the dollar remains strong, according to the Automobile Assocation.
Petrol prices rose 11 cents last month due to hikes in excise tax, the GST-rise and increases in the price of oil globally.
However, the AA says petrol prices have recently fallen and the strength of New Zealand currency means oil is now cheaper to import into New Zealand.
AA spokesperson Mark Stockdale says this saving should be passed onto the New Zealand public.
"We think there's room there for the petrol companies to drop the price by a few cents," he told Radio New Zealand.
