Petrol prices are on the way up again, with the major companies lifting prices by 4c a litre overnight and today.
BP, Shell, Caltex and Mobil all confirmed the price for 91-octane petrol was now 135.9c a litre, and diesel 92.9c.
After rising sharply earlier this year, reaching 155.9c a litre for 91-octane and 101.1c for diesel in mid-September, prices had been falling before the latest increase.
Caltex spokesman John Kerr said the rises followed increased international costs for product.
A few weeks ago it had been thought enough was stockpiled to get through the northern winter but concerns had now arisen that was not the case, he said.
Pressure on prices had already been rising before last night's fall in the value of the New Zealand dollar against the US currency.
