KEY POINTS:
The major petrol companies have increased petrol prices today with only Gull holding out.
Mobil spokesman Alan Bailey said the price on refined petrol on the Singapore market had increased "significantly in the last few days".
Mobil has increased its prices by 6 cents a litre, now selling 91 unleaded for 148.9 cents a litre and 95 for 153.9.
BP has increased petrol prices by 5 cents, making them one cent cheaper than Mobil.
Shell's petrol price also went up by 5 cents.
Spokeswoman Jackie Maitland said the rise was due to the international refined price as well as pressure from the Kiwi Dollar falling in value.
Spokeswoman Sharon Buckland said the exchange rate was not helping petrol prices.
She said although the price of crude oil had gone down, it remained volatile and was not reflected in the international price.
BP spokesman Neil Green said the international price of petrol had increased by 31 cents a litre so far this year but BP had only raised prices by 15 cents.
Meanwhile, Gull has increased its diesel price by three cents a litre but has not moved on petrol.
It had dropped diesel to below $1 last Thursday, the first time since May, 2007.
Gull's business manager Graham Stirk said there had been a window of opportunity to drop prices last week but that has since closed.
The move comes on the back of a 26.9 per cent fall in petrol and diesel prices in the December quarter, according to figures released by Statistics New Zealand.
The pump prices peaked in early July and fell steadily during the following months.
