KEY POINTS:
Petrol prices nudged ever closer to the $2 a litre mark with prices rising again this week.
Automobile Association spokesman Mike Noon said it appeared Shell, Mobil and Caltex were moving up to BP's price of $1.83 for 91 octane and $1.42 for Diesel, although Shell and Mobil could not be contacted to confirm the shift.
Mr Noon said the AA "wouldn't argue with BP's price for the diesel on the margins that we see".
"It's due to rising refined price. There have been increases in the price of crude but they always take a bit of time to come through."
He said BP's Ultimate 98 octane petrol was at $1.97.
